Monday, i had to take nathalie to the airport... because of the madness that was the french quarter during
the weekend (we
skillfully avoided southerern decadence, a.k.a gay mardi gras) by staying at the pool at the hotel, and then leaving the city on sunday... on monday, nathalie flew back to tulsa via baton rouge... we stopped by the state capitol building built by Gov. Huey P. Long during the early 1930s... Gov. long built a beautiful
capitol building in the modern style of the 1930s. marble, stone from mount vesuvius, and all the modern comforts of the ages to reflect the bright future and modernity (and oil money) in 1930s Louisiana... the building is special because not only did gov. long have it built, but he was also assasinated in this corridor to the right. no one is quite sure who killed him, but supposedly it was a doctor and son of a political rival... huey long was huge, as witnessed by the 40 trillion bridges over the mississippi named after him, and the bridge over lake charles as well... he also improved part of the stadium at LSU with money the federal government provided to build a dormitory... if you look at the picture below, you can see a portion of the stadium that has lots of windows... it was built as a dorm/portion of the stadium... su

n times... directly across from the stadium is Mike the tiger... LSU's mascot in his natural tiger habitat.
he also sells tiger brand coffee.
tiger brand coffee, its a real treat, even tigers prefer a cup of it to real meat. LSU had a really big and pretty campus, it surprised me with lots of spanish colonial looking buildings instead of lots of antebellum classical revival style buildings...
