on our trip from new orleans to norfolk
we got to learn a
little of what our ship can do, and learn about some of the ship's quirks. the captain took us junior officers onto the bridge wing and went through manover board manouvers with us in the florida straits... the deep blue water turned turquoise as we increased speed and rudder trying to get our graceful floating school bus turned around. we experienced beautiful sunsets in the gulf of mexico every night as we worked our way east. life in 3 section duty is strenuous. 5 hours of watch with 10 hours off
duty to sleep, eat, and do everything else you need to do before you go on watch again. rightly or wrongly, i decided, i'd rather sleep than do much else, apart from watch and work on my qualifications. i did finish two of the smaller ones, and
somewhere off JAX we we fired our 30mm guns which was cool... i watched it in combat because the bridge was crowded and i didnt want to crowd up there, plus when we neared norfolk, we completed our flight deck certifications and our well deck certifications meaning that we're now a fully functional warship, green but eager. and ready to head up to new york city for commissioning and whatever operations the CNO decides to send us on.
