so, not all of life is gallivanting about the world...
peering down from mexican pyramids or looking down on the danube from your hotel room window... there is also a certain amount of planning that comes into play... especially if you have something like my present trip idea to plan... taking ferries from Gibraltar to Constantinople... right now, the trip would encompass british, spanish, moroccan, italian, tunisian, croatian, and greek territory... with the goal
eventually reaching istanbul, probably overland from either greece or the turkish coast. the longest ferry ride would be 46 hours (tangier-genoa) and the shortest, 30
minutes (algeciras-ceuta) logistically, this could be a difficult trip because of the different ferry companies and being on someone else's schedule. still not sure if i can even do it... all the ferrys so far cost about 670 euros.
there are several versions of the general plan... the second version goes across sicily to get to the italian city of bari... the northern route through livorno and corsica has a problem in that there are no northern route port cities to dubrovnik... bari is the main ferry point to dubrovnik... i think. i dunno, some of the ferry travel guide websites are woefully obsolete... im going to go back through at some point and double check with the proper ferry company websites...
the third plan neglects sardinia and corsica in favour of the pelagic islands between sicily and tunisia and malta... which i think will have fewer american tourists than the even corsica and sicily... they are also easily accessible from multiple sicilian ports which is also a way to work your way along the sicilian coast.
