My OCS roommate middlemiss came to visit this
weekend, so we went on
a few minor adventures. we ate at a vietnamese restaurant at the end of st charles, and then went over to margaritaville on decatur street to have a drink at the tire swing bar. then, we met up with some of the other JOs and they had dinner at margarittaville. they ate out on the balcony and we had a drink with them while they ate. it was pretty fun. we were there for like 3 hours, and the bills got fuddled all crazy like. we wandered around a little, and i got to take a decent shot of the statue in Lee Circle. Lee faces north, so he can meet the enemy head on.
saturday we went to the Confederate Museum and the World War 2 Museum. the confederat
e museum is in memorial hall, and is a shrine to many of the prominent confederates from New Orleans and the surrounding area. the interior of the building seems almost a church, and is full of the relics of the Confederacy... Included P.G.T Beauregard's uniform, multiple covers, and a swagger stick carved from part of the flag mast at fort sumter. they also had little bits of flotsam and
jetsam that they recovered from CSS PATRICK HENRY, and CSS VIRGINIA, and a little bit about the 1st Louisiana Native Guards, a Confederate free black militia unit in New Orleans. after the Confederate Museum we went to the World War 2 Museum. I had been before with my division, but it's a good museum... all the world war 2 veterans were there saturday, so, i talked to one who helped build a replica landing craft like the one he was on from scratch. and he had picture
s of the construction, and a picture of him from 1943...
its a great musuem.
after that we went to the quarter and had lunch at K-Pauls and then popped into the cathedral, and ate beignets at cafe du monde... always a good time.
