elo horizonte. belo horizonte is the third largest city in brasil. it has clean streets, is the capital city of minas gerais province, and the center of agricultural and industrial energies in the province. basically, its omaha, nebraska with alot of hills...
our hotel, we werent very fond of... it had decent reviews, and we knew people that had stayed there before... and they said it was nice... it looked like it had not been updated since 1970. the room had a view of the park which was nice, but the street below was noisy... especially when the evangelical church started blasting very loud religious music... or the random fire works a block away... that i somehow never actually saw the fireworks although they were less than 300 yards away and hidden behind a building that i looked down on.
we went to dinner at porcao, which is a really good brasilian steakhouse. i wasnt expecting it to be as much as it cost, but upon later review, it was actually less expensive than the ones in rio. apart from the traditional filet mignon so tender it melts in your mouth on a sword, i liked the meat stuffed with cheese on a sword. porcao was situated on top of a hill overlooking random sky scrapers and hills. nathalie was fairly unimpressed with the view cause there werent any distinguishing architectural buildings there. but, i thought it was picturesque none the less just because of the hills covered with buildings that sprawled across the valley floor.
the coolest thing about belo horizonte is the airport. which was built in
1980, 90% of the airport is open air. the climate in belo horizonte is cooler than the coast because of the elevation. the temperature was almost 20 degrees cooler than in rio. so, this airport was pretty awesome. this is the view of the flight check in area and the drop off area. all the stores, internet cafe, and everything was open to the air, although covered. it was pretty awesome.
