Last Few Days in Newport
my time in Newport, the start of my naval career is drawing to
a close. the exams are done, the lectures are done, and the few things left to do... eat at some more great restaurants, and get out on Narraganset Bay for some sailing. we went on one of the mega tourist schooners for a sunset cruise. which was pretty cool, we went out on the aquidneck. it was kind of funny, because they guys sailing the boat were like college/just out of college aged guys working on boats in newport for the summer. one of them was looking at becoming a swo, haha. i'm sure he'd be in for some surprises if he becomes a swo. i did a lot in newport, but there is stil
l more to do... looking forward to 6 months there again for department head school... i'm hoping that i get to spend some of the time there i
n the summer. newport in the summertime is full of sailboats... and the almost nightly regattas. the night we went out, it was J-24s from the ida lewis yacht club. that was fun to watch. we found tons of good restaurants to eat at.
some of my favourites are 22B, down on bowen's wharf, its my favourite expensive seafood
restaurant. diegos, also on bowen's wharf, a sort of mexican place... lobster tacos were awesome. and then of course there is ben and jerry's ice cream every 20 feet. the officer's club is great because of the patio and the view of the bridge.
