in the modern valley of mexico.

mexico city is huge... and sinking. the aztecs built Tenochtitlan floating in the center of several lakes, and the spanish came in and destroyed Tenochtitlan, and built their own city on top of the rubble. today, mexico city has over 20 million people and the sprawl is incredible... normally when americnas think of mexico they think of a burnt over desert littered with dead cowboys and cacti... which, there is a part of mexico that looks like that (it's called monterey) most of mexico is lush and verdant... mexico city is modern. along the avenue reforma there are park benches designed by modern artists... two exampls of which are to the right. the hotel we stayed at was as modern and trendy as any in the world. the W's reception area was all black, and the bar was all white... with a koi pond, and sweet house music. the ultra luxury of Reforma and Polanco contrasts with some of the other neighbourhoods were the poorest of the poor live... mexico has insanely wealthy people and incredibly poor people... but, the city is awesome, and you should go.
