so the last place i went before i drove back up to

restaurant, they have good pecan pralines there... but i forgot to get some from the bakery there before we left. went and paid my respects at the Alamo. and then we went to the Menger Hotel Bar that night... thetulsa was san antonio. went up to visit tidwell and bowen. that was cool, ate at mi tierra, which is a cavernous Menger Hotel was built in the 19th century by a german dude named Menger. and the bar is a replica of a taproom at the House of Lords in Parliament... its also where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders. which was a cavalry regiment in the Spanish American War, composed mostly of cowboys and ivy league jocks... very reflective of teddy roosevelt. after that we went and had a drink at the hotel valencia... which, i have to recomend visiting, or staying at, if you go to san antonio...

it's on the river walk, and its ubermodern/trendy. very cool place.
the next day, we went to gruene, texas and floated the comal river. we would have gone down the guadalupe, but the water level was way to high and way too fast... so we went down the comal, and tubed our way down past schlitterbahn. then after two hours or so of tubing, maybe a little more. i think it was 5ish when we got off the river. we went to the gristmill in gruene and then hung out for like an hour or so at gruene hall... it was a wednesday afternoon, so nothing much going on at like 6 or 7 oclock at night. but it was cool... all the pictures of famous singers on the wall... the history of the place. its one of those places that makes me wish i had gone to college in texas, since it seems like everybody's been there, and used to go in college almost once a month or so, something i missed out on since i was in virginia.
