madrid

ive flown through madrid several times. the first time, in 2004, was before the new terminal 4 was built (or ive been told was before it was built), which is fairly massive terminal, and scarily bright and airy for its size. i finally actually left the airport this week. priscilla has been studying/living there all summer (she spent a year there teaching english as well) so shes about as good as it gets for a tourguide... except when she would try to make me figure out how to get back to her flat, and i'd be ummmm, i dont know, left? so she would laugh and say how can you have no idea where youre going, or something, and id be like, i dont need to know, you know. so madrid is a cool city, i still think i prefer valencia, because of the liberating feeling of a coastline. nevertheless, madrid is the capital of a former international empire and world power, so its got alot of major arcitectural things, like the plaza mayor, which unfortunately, while i was there, they were preparing for some sort of concert or rally. but then you have like the royal palace, which is pretty big... although not as big as the winter palace in st petersburg... but its also two wings at right angles to each other, so possibly if you put those to wings end to end, it would be as big... madrid is a big spanish city, its got lots of statues and plazas and things, its spain, so its uberhot in the summer, but there was an autumnalness to the wind. priscilla said that fall would probably be startin in about two weeks... i was surprised that fall came so early to central spain. prisclla twirled around in the wind enjoying the coolness of it. i tried not to grimmace as the sand kicked up by the wind sandblasted my legs... i had a 730am fight to praha today, so that meant 530am at the airport, so we went out for a drink before dinner, ate, we ate at a kinda touristy place, but it had really good food, and old professional waiters in white jackets, their specialty was roast suckling pig, which was delicious, walked around, got some desert at the plaza de oriente infront of the palace, and then were headin back up gran via to get home, and went to a club and danced for like a little bit... a place called stardust. i recomend it. the dance floor is empty because its only like 130 and people dont start going to clubs til like 3am... im not abig club guy, so this was fine with me to be there when no one else was. and then we went back to her flat and she packed up her stuff to move, and i packed up mine to proceed on to praha en route to home. and that was the last night, good times.
