32nd America's Cup

so, the swiss won in 2003... and since the wind on lake geneva isnt exactly steady, regular, or fun, they looked around to find a place to have the cup. so they looked around europe... and valencia gave them a good offer, built a lovely new facility, really, really nice. and here it is. june 2007 with the swiss up 4 races to 2 in a first to 5 wins series... so if the swiss win today... it will be over. on friday, i went out on one of the spectator boats. mom and i had gotten a package through bmw north america, and pretty much it's been white glove VIP treatment the whole way... they picked us up from the airport in brand new bmw X5s and took us through check-in. and then theyve taken us to ubernice places for dinner each night... some of the hottest places in town. for anybody who knows valencia, i can highly recomend, torrijos, la sucursal, and buduar. theyre all great. so back to sailing. on friday, we went to the bmw oracle team base as guests, and they had a big party for all the people that were going out on their three spectator boats... bmw oracle also allowed you to tour their base and look at their sail loft and storage, or listen to a talk on match racing tactics by one of their skippers... the skipper of their practice boat, a dane whos first name i forgot, but who's last name is Mohr... he got put in charge of bmw oracle for their final race in the luis vitton cup. then it was time to board the spectator boat... we were on their catamaran... it was so nice. there was lots of wind so it didnt seem hot at all... unfortunately, the kiwis blew a spinnaker and didnt win. it was sad, because the kiwi start was so aggressive, they pretty much went at alinghi and wouldnt let them maneuver, it was so aggressive, and so awesome, i was giddy with excitement at the start. and then when they rounded the first mark to start the downwind leg, they tore their spinnaker and something happened and it took them for ever to get it down. so they lost, and then they lost race 6 as well... after race 5 when we were coming in on the spectator boat, the entire spectator fleet all tried to jam through the narrow port america's cup entry together, so there was a traffic jam, it was amusing. and then, we got back to the bmw oracle base, and they had a party. they had a band, and food and drinks and a grinding contest. not grinding in the dancing manner so much as the sailing manner. grinding is what its called when youre on the wenches and you are raising/trimming sails. so me and the english guy in our group went up and tried it three times... we wound up finishing like 3rd. it's a two person job and for something that took us 6.14 seconds... its pretty tiring... the bmw oracle crew members time was 4.48... so today, could be the last race. go kiwis! if the swiss win, i swear i'll blow up a cuckoo clock.
