so, tommorow, i leave the uk for the end of this trip... within a week, i will be back home in texas. i
left my flat today. and i just realised i forgot to
put the windows up.... oops. anyhow, im flying out of london city airport, and it next to canary wharf, in the part of london which used to be dockyards... its a fascinating area, both sides of the river thames, used to be the heart of world commerce. ships were built here and then sailed to all ends of the british empire and beyond to bring their commerce back to this part of london... then world war II, collapse of the empire and the docks fell into disuse, as new ships began using newer ports away from city centers. then, the area was revitalized, and canary wharf is again a center of international commerce, this time, it's the banks and high finance types that have moved in to make their home along
the docks and canals of the docklands. on both sides of the hotel im staying in are old dry docks, one has a ship, the other is full of water to make a reflecting pool (pictured above) the hotel itself, is a very peculiar interior design, because its converted wharves. and across the way are the new skyscrapers of canary wharf, canada tower and the rest.
tommorow it is off to madrid, then because of the vagaries of the madrid international flight market, the 4th i'll proceed to praha for the night, and then on the 5th to amsterdam, and then the 6th, i'll be home. it was 300 euros cheaper to fly through prague. and i love the capital city in the heart of bohemia, so i was like sure ill spend a night there.
