another week in london done...

so, this week, i went to the globe three times... sunday i saw othello, and have already discussed that, last night i went and saw the merchant of venice, have to thank jane and priscilla for telling me to see it, much better than i thought it'd be... and tonight, i saw love's labour lost, which was jolly good fun right up til the end, which with the name of the play... is a spoiler. regardless, the globe is great. especially last night and tonight, i was up on the second level... which meant it was quieter, and better visibility... the first time, i was seated in the first tier, and some giant was standing infront of me... no problems with that up on the second tier. i did some research today, and then knocked off early so i could go to the british museum, i wanted to see the elgin marbles and see what the big fuss was... quite frankly, after the pergemon musem in berlin, i was terribly disappointed. the grecian collection was quite small and overcrowded with tourists... the elgin marbles are soo famous cause theyre off the parthenon... except theyre in such poor condition that half of it is like looking at terribly erroded pieces of stone... cognizant of the historical importance, i still felt disappointed, as well as annoyed at the number of people... and i could not help but make comparisons with the pergemon museum... which is fairly quiet once you get away from the pergemon temple and the babylonian ishtar gate... but spectacular exhibits dont make the museum... the pergemon had countless room after room of greek and roman statues... the brit. museum had like 10 on display in their section... possibly because several other levels of the exhibit were closed... the statues they had, were impressive, but, with so few statues and so many tourists, each statue was surrounded by flash happy foreigners pointing at greek and roman statuary genitals, so i did not get to properly appreciate the statues as i was too busy dodging italian, japananese, and korean pictures... but from what i saw, i was not impressed... and it made me sad, then made me wonder if i was being an intellectual snob because the exhibit at the british museum wasnt exactly the quality i expected of the british museum... after having seen them, i can safely say, give them back. theyre not that impressive anyways... its better to to go back to the elgin marbles... greece wants them restored... leave them in athens where you can see the rest and not feel underwhelmed... after the globe, i walked along the river some more. this time i walked east towards tower bridge, away from my flat in chelsea because i wanted to cross over the london bridge at night... yes, i was thiking about in the disney cartoon peter pan they are flying past parliament and the tower bridge... i got to take a picture of the golden hinde, that is docked in southwark. when i was a child, this replica came to freeport, and i got to go play on her at some cocktail party for the crew and local sailors... me and my brothers sank pirate ships at the port of freeport. my buddy keith's dad had the privilege of piloting the golden hinde into the port of freeport... the golden hinde is the ship sir francis drake used to circumnavigate the globe. sir francis drake was the hero of the spanish armada, and sacker of countless spanish cities and the terror of spaniards everywhere to this day. he sacked cities in spain, santo domingo, panama, and discovered a great bay somewhere between san francisco and vancouver... before being the first sailor since magellan to sail around the world... it makes you proud to be british. (even if your family hasnt been british since the revolution)
